The Society for Historical Archaeology is pleased to announce the publication of Finding Hidden Voices of the Chinese Railroad Workers: An Archaeological and Historical Journey by Mary L. Maniery, Rebecca Allen, and Sarah Christine Heffner. Chinese workers were a key factor in the successful completion of many railroads throughout the west. While this richly illustrated book focuses on the Chinese who worked for the Central Pacific Railroad during its construction of the Transcontinental Railroad, many of the CPRR workers went on to build the Northern Pacific Railroad, Southern Pacific Railroad, and other routes throughout the United States and into Canada. This volume is relevant to any railroad that used a Chinese workforce during construction.
